One of the catalysts for this blog was seeing memes and posts on Facebook that were either ill informed or just downright false. It’s super easy to hit share when you see something you agree with on Facebook.
We’re all entitled to opinions, what I have a problem with are memes or statements that are either wholly false or of questionable veracity. Memes are great; They’re short and digestible. But, they’re also made by just about anyone so, we should definitely question them before we hit share. Depending on my mood, I am usually that guy who will just comment with a link disproving a post or a meme. Lately though, there’s so much, that I don’t care to waste my time. I have a full time job and this isn’t it, yet. Do everyone a favor: If you see something, question it, don’t assume truth just because it’s online. If I see things that are especially egregious, I will turn them into a post but, you don’t need me to research. A simple google search will usually find the answer for you. There are sites that devote their resources to looking these things up for you. Usually they include a citation so you can make sure they’re accurate. Wikipedia isn’t a bad resource either. I wouldn’t trust the veracity of statements on there but, it’s a great jumping off point. Follow the cites and links, they will help your research. WE should all question anything we see or hear. Galileo held so strongly his belief that Earth wasn’t the center of the universe that he was brought up on charges to the Inquisition. He could’ve just shared a meme that the earth was the center but, instead he commented with an article disproving it. We should all be Galileo.
